Singer and actor Lee Seung-gi joined the Army at a training camp located in Nonsan, South Chungcheong Province, Monday.

“My hectic schedule delayed my service for my country,” Lee told press at the scene of enlistment. “I will stay safe.”

After five weeks of basic training in the largest boot camp in Korea, Lee will serve as an Army soldier until Oct. 31, 2017.

On Jan. 21, the 29-year-old Lee’s new tune “I Am Leaving for the Army” topped local charts immediately after its release.

Two days prior to the enlistment, Lee reportedly had dinner with comedians Kang Ho-dong, Lee Soo-geun and rapper Eun Ji-won, former hosts of KBS2‘s prime-time entertainment show “Two Days, One Night.”

Lee debuted in 2004 with “Because You’re My Girl,” instantly rising to stardom. Since then, Lee has made several TV appearances, including “Strong Heart” and “Sisters Over Flowers,” as well as “Two Days, One Night.“

Lee is also poised to appear on the silver screen in September as protagonist Do-yoon in the forthcoming movie ”Marital Harmony,” the second installment of the “Divining Art” trilogy.
