Taeyang of Big Bang revealed that his hit track “Only Look at Me” was originally written for another artist, in the latest episode of SBS’ “Fantastic Duo,” which aired on Sunday.

“Only Look at Me” is the lead track of his first solo album, “Hot,” released in 2008. The EP and track won for best R&B and soul album and best R&B and soul song, respectively, at the Korean Music Awards that year.

“It was originally a song that Teddy (a producer and songwriter for YG Entertainment) wrote for someone else,” Taeyang said. “But I really liked the sound and melody line of this song so I nagged him to let me sing the song.”

When K-pop lyricist Kim Eana asked him whether the lyrics “Even if I cheat on you, you just focus on me” conflicted with his values, he said he was not actually dating anyone back then.

“Since I started my trainee years early, I had no time to date. I couldn’t understand the lyrics fully back then, but I just sang it in my own style,” he said.

“Fantastic Duo” provides fans the opportunity to perform duets with their favorite singers. Among the five candidates introduced on the show, the singer gets to choose his or her partner to compete against another duo to become the fantastic duo.
