“We aim to outdo Taehyun and Beomgyu’s radio segment with our arts and crafts show doing origami,” they began ambitiously.

“I am all thumbs actually,” said leader Soobin, but youngest bandmate Hueningkai showed confidence, saying he used to be in an origami club in elementary school.

Flipping through a book of directions, they decided on a crane, one of the easiest patterns, to begin with. Soobin seemed to be quicker with his flower-patterned paper, teasing, “I am already outpacing.”

Hueningkai responded, “You need precision for origami,” but still could not help but glance over at his rival’s progress.

Several steps later, however, Soobin had to ask for help and Hueningkai smugly pointed out, “It has been only a few minutes ago that you said you were faster.”

After almost 20 minutes, Soobin gave up and settled on a paper plane, repeating that he was far from nimble-fingered. “Maybe we should try coloring next time,” commented Hueningkai.

Blackpink raises bar for girl groups in US

Kpop Herald delved into the popularity of Blackpink, recently in the global spotlight, especially in the US, in the media outlet’s weekly segment.

“They are doing really well in the US right now,” Ahn Sung-mi began.

“They were already going strong in Korea with a lot of hit songs … but they really started to gain steam as they signed with Interscope Records last October,” said Hong Dam-young, speaking about the group’s YG Entertainment teaming up with the major US label under Universal Music Group. The move shows the home label’s ambition for the four-piece act in the US, commented Ahn.

Blackpink debuted stateside with a performance at the UMG Grammys showcase in February, and in April became the first K-pop girl group to perform at the Coachella music festival.

Being invited to such a hugely popular event to perform for more than an hour in itself is a great achievement, explained Ahn. It was a smart choice for the band as well, since the group could communicate with such a wide audience, she added.

Twice’ Jihyo entices camera for music video

Jihyo of Twice cranked up her allure several notches for the music video of “Fancy.”

For the group dance shoots, befitting her role as the leader, she went straight back to perfecting the moves, pausing only for a touch-up. Struggling to catch her breath, she commented that the choreography was “crazy” while her bandmates took a short break.

“‘Fancy’ is somewhat different from what we have been doing. The choreography is cool and the concept of the music video will be chic as well,” she said. The track is from the group’s recently released “Fancy You” EP.

On the second day shooting her solo scenes, the idol made herself comfortable in a ball pit meant to suggest a soaking tub, as she exuded sizzling vibes and stared into the camera with huge eyes.

“The director said I could be a little sexy. I don’t know if I pulled it off though,” she said with a sheepish grin.

Hyeri channels first solo stream into meokbang

Hyeri, formerly of Girl’s Day, had a feast on her first V Live episode since she struck out on her own in April to focus more on acting.

“It feels as if I have to eat up all of this like those YouTubers who do meokbang,” said the singer and actress, referring to popular genre of eating broadcasts as she gestured at the table full of food.

“I recently restarted personal training and have to report every meal to my trainer,” she said, asking fans to wait for her to send a picture of the table. But her sister beat her to it, capturing the image online. “Oh well, I have worked out for three hours today, so I deserve to eat,” Hyeri conceded.

“You know how I love tteokboki, right? I can’t remember how long it has been,” the performer said, dipping a piece of the chewy rice cake further into the spicy sauce with a fork. But the broad smile of her expression soon changed, as the popular street food turned out to be much spicier than anticipated.
